WH- QUESTIONS WORDS

WORKSHOP No. 2 

Only for sixth grade

1. INTRODUCTION

WH - Questions words  son palabras interrogativas que utilizamos para hacer preguntas en Inglés. Este tipo de preguntas no se pueden responder con "yes" o "no" porque estas preguntas buscan información especifica. Ejemplo:

• When? /wen/ - ¿ Cuando?
• What? /wɒt/ - ¿Qué, cuál, cuáles?
• Who? /huː/ - ¿ Quién, quienes?
• Where?  /wɛər/ - ¿ Dónde?
• Why? /waɪ/ - ¿Por qué?
• Which? /wɪtʃ/ - ¿ Cuál, cuáles?
• Whose?  /huːz/ - ¿ De quién?
• How? /haʊ/- ¿ Como?
• How much? / hau much/ - ¿Cuánto o cuánta?
• How many ? /hau meny/ - ¿ Cuantas o cuantos?
• How often? / hau ofen/ - ¿ Cada cuanto tiempo?
• How long? /hau lon/ - ¿Cuánto se demora?

2. LET´S SEE SOME EXAMPLES

1. When?

• When is your birthday? / ¿ Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?
• When do you go to the Gym?     / ¿ Cuándo vas al gimnasio?
• When do you see your cousins? / ¿ Cuándo ves a tus primos?
• When do they study? / ¿ Cuándo ellos estudian?
• When does she wake up?/¿ Cuándo despierta ella?
• When does he finish  school? / ¿Cuándo termina el colegio?

2. What?

• What is that? / ¿Qué es eso?
• What are you thinking about? / ¿ Qué estas pensando?
• What should we do now? / ¿ Qué haremos ahora?
• What time is it? / ¿ Qué hora es?

3. Who? 

• Who is he? / ¿ Quién es el?
• Who is your favorite writer? / ¿Quién es tu escritor favorito?
• Who is the most important person in the world for you?/ ¿Quién es la persona mas importante en el mundo para ti?

4. Where?

• Where are you staying? /¿Dónde te estás quedando?)
• Where is he going? /¿A dónde va?)
• Where did you put it? /¿Dónde lo pusiste?
• Where is the remote? /¿Dónde está el control remote?)
• Where was she? /¿Dónde estaba?)
• Where have they been? /¿Dónde han estado?)
• Where can I buy new clothes? /¿Dónde puedo comprar ropa nueva?)
• Where is everyone? /¿Dónde están todos?

5.  Why? / Se debe responder con because (Porque)

• Why does she look so sad? / ¿Por qué ella parece tan triste?
• Why do you have a black cat? / ¿ Por qué tienes un gato negro?
•  Why do you like buying computers?/ ¿ Por qué te gusta comprar computadores?
• Why did you call me? / ¿ Por qué me llamaste?

6. Which ? 

• Which is yours? / ¿Cuál es tuyo?
• Which book do you want? /¿ Cuál libro quiere?
• Which color do you prefer? / ¿ Cuál color prefieres?

7. Whose? 

• Whose is this pen? / ¿ De quién es este bolígrafo?
• Whose idea was that? / ¿ De quien fue esa idea?

8.  How ?

• How was the trip? / ¿ Cómo estuvo el viaje?
• How old is your sister? / ¿ Cuantos años tiene tu hermana?
• How old are you? / ¿ Cuántos años tienes ?

9. How much? ( se utiliza para los sustantivos que no se pueden contar)

• How much is this t-shirt? / ¿ Cuánto cuesta esta camiseta?
• How much water do you drink ? /¿Cuanta agua bebes?
• How much beer did they drink?/¿ Cuánta cerveza bebieron ellos?

10. How many ? 

• How many friends do you have? / ¿ Cuántos amigos tienes?
• How many students are in this classroom? / ¿ Cuántos estudiantes hay en este salón de clases ?

11. How often?

• How often does she go to the cinema?/ ¿ Cuántas veces ella va al cine ?

12.  How long 

• How long was the movies? / ¿ Cuánto se demoró la película?
• How long did  it take you to arrive to the party? / ¿ Cuánto tiempo tardaste en llegar a la fiesta?
